Founded in 2013 by Attorney Mathew E. Holm, a small business lawyer in Phoenix, the IBC Law Firm has already helped a wide variety individuals and small businesses throughout the Phoenix area and across the state of Arizona on various legal issues including Business Entity Formation, Investor Agreements, Sale of a Business, Federal Trademark Registration, Employment Contracts, Estate Planning and more.

Attorney Mathew E. Holm

Mathew E. Holm, Esq. was born and raised in northern Ohio and attended the College of Wooster, a small private liberal arts college, in central Ohio. While at the College of Wooster, Mathew majored in Philosophy, earning high academic honors, served as Captain of the Men’s NCAA nationally ranked swim team, and also as a Resident Advisor (RA). As part of the nationally renowned Independent Study program at Wooster, Mathew successfully completed a nearly 100 page thesis on Ethical Theory.

After earning his Bachelor of Arts, he moved to Los Angeles where he worked in the financial services industry for approximately 6 years. Having passed exams including Series 3, Series, 7, Series 66 and Insurance License exams he worked as a stockbroker, financial advisor, commodities broker and loan officer, at Citigroup and Merrill Lynch.

In his personal life Mathew completed the Los Angeles marathon, has traveled to Europe, Hong Kong and to China to visit friends and clients several times.

Mathew attended law school at Chapman University School of Law where he served as President of the Business and Investment Law Society. He graduated in 2009 from law school, moved to Arizona, and passed the bar exam. After working for various law firms he founded this business law firm, the IBC Law Firm LLC in 2013.

Having studied mathematical formulas in financial based law school courses Mathew invented a new mathematical formula for more accurately determining the total cost of combination mortgage loans coined Blended APR ©. As a licensed attorney in the State of Arizona as well as in United States Federal Court, Mathew has helped a variety of clients in multi-million dollar transactions and small start-ups, advised his clients on securities, e-commerce and advanced internet law issues, finance terms, real estate transactions, business taxation, intellectual property rights, employment issues, contractual rights and obligations and more.

Together with his Canadian born wife Janelle, Mathew completed a 42 mile hike across the Grand Canyon and back in less than 24 hours (Rim to Rim to Rim), in 2015. Mathew is a proud father of his daughter Harper born in 2016 and his son Greyson born in 2018.

At the IBC Law Firm we regularly work with the Arizona Corporation Commission, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Maricopa County Superior Court, and other federal, state, and local agencies in order to service our clients. Bimal Merchant, Of Counsel

Bimal’s practice focuses on business and securities transactions, contracts, business entity formation, business succession planning, Mergers & Acquisitions, real estate and intellectual property.

Bimal provides General Counsel to companies in a wide variety of legal topics pertaining to technology, healthcare, science, medical, real estate, web-based applications, cannabis, service-oriented business, engineering, retail, logistics, warehouse, and consumer.

Out of law school, Bimal got his start dealing with complex securities and regulatory matters. He has led strategic legal securities initiatives by having an in-depth understanding of securities regulations, both at the federal and state levels, drafting securities regulatory documents for emerging companies (Series A) and second-stage investing and drafting private and public offering documents for the sale of securities (shares, interests), debt-related securities, and EDGAR use.

Bimal has also filed, assisted, and counseled companies with respect to intellectual property needs. He has filed several trademarks with the United States Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO), responded to a variety of Office Actions initiated by the USPTO, and drafted License Agreements in connection with the use of the intellectual property.

Bimal also provides real estate development strategy consultative services on a regular cadence to ensure alignment in connection with complex estate documentation (purchase agreements, lease agreements, deeds, deeds of trust, mortgages).

Bimal also has significant litigation experience and has defended various cases in the Superior Court of Arizona, the Industrial Commission of Arizona, and the Department of Economic Security. Efforts on the Plaintiff’s side resulted in recovering millions in settlements, awards, and verdicts. This experience also helps in his advising and support of companies on the defense side.

Outside of the office, you will find Bimal traveling all over the world with his wife and two daughters or playing golf in the lovely Arizona sun.

Amara Edblad, Of Counsel

Amara Edblad handles every aspect of personal injury cases – from all aspects of property damage claims to subrogation and litigation. Amara has practiced personal injury law exclusively in Arizona since 2012.  Amara has won numerous awards for her Litigation skills and Customer Service.

Amara has a diverse educational background that gives her a unique perspective on personal injury cases and issue spotting.  She attended University of Southern California and graduated as a Renaissance Scholar with a double major in History and Cinema Production.

Following her tenure at USC, Amara attended a summer program at Cambridge University in England, followed by a year-long program at the London School of Economics where Amara studied History and Law.

Amara has a big heart for animals, and is a pet-mom to several four-legged “children.” Outside of work, Amara enjoys traveling to tropical climates and vineyards around the world with her husband, Kyle.

Amy Dodell, Of Counsel

Amy truly enjoys helping others with their legal issues, particularly in the area of estate planning. Professionally, Amy is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and admitted to practice before the Arizona Supreme Court, the US District Court (Arizona), and the United States Court of Appeals, 9th Circuit. In law school, Amy was the recipient of several awards and prides herself on delivering excellent legal service to her clients.  As a local volunteer, Amy is often at Wills for Heroes, helping our local police officers and firefighters with their estate planning needs, or she can be seen on ABC15 Arizona, volunteering in the phone bank on the “Let Joe Know” show.

Personally, Amy has been married to her husband, David, for 39 years, and has three amazing adult children. Since the kids all left Arizona to pursue their own careers, Amy enjoys spending time with her husband and their Keeshond, Lucy, and Pomeranian, Ruby.

Janelle Holm, Office Administrator & Paralegal

Janelle manages everything behind the scenes of IBC Law Firm. She works closely with the attorneys to draft, review and proofread a variety of documents and policies, rules and laws, and ensure compliance with the office’s legal policies and procedures.

Janelle graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration – Marketing from Dordt University, in Sioux Center, Iowa, as well as her Associate of Arts degree in Administrative Assistance. Born in Canada, Janelle escaped the frigid winters and spent 7 years in Pasadena, CA, working at Russ Reid Company (now rebranded as One & All) as a Marketing Account Executive with large non-profit Agencies such as World Vision and Operation Smile. After moving to Phoenix in 2014, Janelle continued to work in Advertising at Davidson & Belluso, a full-service ad agency, working on branding campaigns for large and small businesses across all industries. Mountain House, PepsiCo, City of Phoenix, CVS Health, California Bank & Trust, and the Arizona Attorney General, just to name a few. Janelle pivoted into Paralegal drafting in 2021, and her attention to detail is pertinent to the success of IBC Law Firm. In her free time, Janelle is an active mom of 2, certified personal trainer, an ultra-hiker, and passionately works toward obtaining her “Pro Card” in bodybuilding.

Taylor Lake, Paralegal

Taylor Lake has more than 30 years of professional experience as a writer and attorney licensed in California and Washington. His lawyering experience includes advising clients in corporate and civil law practice, in domestic and international settings. Before he received his J.D. degree from the University of Oregon in 1989, Mr. Lake graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Allen School of Journalism in 1983. While he was a college student, law student, and attorney, Mr. Lake also served in the U.S. Army Reserve as an infantryman, cavalry scout, and civil affairs officer from 1979 to 1995. He received his commission in 1981 and was honorably discharged at the rank of captain.
